7 Day Detox Diet = my way to recover from all the bad things that I have done over Christmas! And trust me there has been a lot!
Christmas in my mind was my licence to eat whatever I liked and think about the consequences later. Well later came and I had the reality check of a massive weight gain over Christmas that even added a whole point and a half to my BMI. I was in danger of going back on all my weight loss progress. And when I saw that I was weighing the same as I had done earlier last year when I was 28 weeks pregnant I knew something had to be done.
It also came at the same time that I had been about to start my post pregnancy diet that I had put together with my nutritionist. Therefore with everything that she had taught me I started my own 7 day detox diet.
I am a breastfeeding mum so I knew this was going to be hard, especially giving up so many vices but if it means in one week that I can have my post pregnancy weight back, then I am all for it.
Before starting my 7 day detox things work out as follows:
- BMI = 27.5
- Weight = 12 stone 13 pounds
- Best post-pregnancy weight = 12 stone 9.5 pounds
- Required weight in one week = 3.5 pounds
- Required BMI in one week = 27.0
As you can see I am a bit mental and who seriously loses 3.5 pounds in one week? Especially the week after completing a detox – as we all know the week after a drop in calories we normally just want to eat everything in sight.
Well here is my reasoning for it – I gained quite a bit the week before Christmas and during Christmas and I want to match the weight I was before this point. This means I need to lose 3.5 pounds to make this happen.
Obviously with a detox more would be nice, but considering that I lost 5 pounds last week I can’t be too hopeful can I?
My 7 day detox diet rules:
I vow that for 7 days I will not consume:
- Alcohol (fat chance of that with breastfeeding)
- Cigarettes (haven’t smoked since 2006 so not a problem)
- Diet drinks
- Processed foods
- Fast food
- Foods high in fat (no butter, oil etc)
- Foods high in sugar (no milk chocolate for me)
I vow that I will replace the following meals with low calorie soup:
I vow to do the following post pregnancy exercises throughout the week:
- Anything that burns calories (that I have the energy for)
- Pelvic Floor Exercises
My soup will involve fat burning foods only
Now this is the easiest part of it, because my fat burning food list has 101 foods on it, so to make soup out of these will be super easy.
Here are the 101 fat burning foods:
And don’t forget to download and save the graphic above as it will be useful for you to print out and use for your detox week.
Here are the soups that I have used in this detox week:
I also vow to:
- Drink 2 litres of water per day
- Have a nice main meal that includes lots of nutrients
- Not cheat this week
This also represents the start of my post pregnancy weight loss plan that has been put together by my nutritionist.
I am also a woman on a mission as I want to be able to fit into a swimming costume and not feel super fat this summer. Kyle breaks up from school in the middle of June therefore I have five months to go to my target weight of 9 stone 3 pounds. So right now this means that I still have 3 stone 10 pounds to target!
So let the party get started and hopefully by the end of it I still like soup!!!!
Hello Friday morning! And after weighing myself after my bootcamp week last week and discovering I had lost five pounds I wanted another wonderful weight loss week. The thought of this much soup is already filling me with dread, though I might warm to it as Portugal is freezing right now.
I start the 7 day detox diet with some broccoli soup. Just because it’s the one I make the most in my soup machine and because its breakfast and I am starving it makes perfect timing.
Then for dinner it is a jacket potato with egg mayonnaise. Though not in the traditional way…..
It involves a large potato that has no butter along with egg mayonnaise that involves mixing hard boiled eggs with onions and natural yoghurt. I quite like it, but Dominic says it is disgusting and he grabs his mayonnaise jar.
My chocolate allowance for the week will be dark chocolate and I have my usual five squares for the day.
The evening soup = tomato & pepper that I have made myself. I end up having to share it with my teenage son though, he has spent years telling me he hates soup, yet now I am eating lots of it, he suddenly wants loads of it!
It is Saturday today and the day that I know will bother me the most on a detox. This is because on a normal week I tend to have my main meal in the afternoon yet on a weekend it’s more likely to be late at night.
Many people say that they struggle to follow a diet on a weekend, but I find it rather easy and normally just put something nice in the slow cooker.
Today it is chicken drumsticks in the slow cooker and oriental beef in the wok with some pita bread.
It is Sunday and today zooms by – though this is probably because after the morning feed I am back to bed and don’t get dressed until gone 10am.
I am not hungry (thanks to the soup filling me up) until early evening and we have beef in a mustard sauce in the slow cooker with new potatoes and it is lovely.
I am amazed by how much more energy I have in my body without all the toxic chemicals and I am loving it.
It is now Monday and I can’t believe its four days since I started my detox. Unlike when I did the cabbage soup diet this is not as restrictive and rather fun. I am enjoying trying out all these new recipes and bringing a whole new world to weight loss with soup. As I am still getting one main meal it is not that bad and as I still get my chocolate then it has my vote.
Today I experiment further and make a lovely ginger and vegetable soup. It is a way to use up the weekends vegetables and a chance to make this latest soup a little bit spicier than the other ones we’ve had.
Now that I am heading towards the end of my week I am starting to wonder as to how much weight I will have lost. It is the time when you have diet fantasy and think to yourself “could it be 5 pounds?” or could we achieve even better this week?
I am hoping for a seven pound weight loss – just based on the amount of calories I have consumed this week. So far I have been averaging about 800-900 per day and considering I am still breastfeeding and that I am exercising when I can, this then makes it quite a lot!
I always love the day before an end to a diet. It’s that moment when you can see the results of your work are paying off and that you will soon be out of it.
Today I have had a sleepless night yesterday with the baby so I miss breakfast. In fact, I don’t get out of bed until lunch time. Therefore I only have one soup portion today and a nice plateful of chicken with vegetables and white pasta.
I must admit I LOVE white pasta and no matter how many lectures I get from my nutrition about clean eating I am still back for more.
I still keep thinking about my weight loss and what is going to be like after a few more days. I also find that this has not been restrictive and how good I still feel.
It is now the last day and I find that on the last day and on the day before weigh-ins that I have this habit of bingeing on carbs. This then ends up making me bloated and affecting my weight loss.
I now feel like I have had way too much broccoli. With me having it as part of my main meal each day as well as in the detox I must have consumed the most I have ever eaten! This is now leading to bad wind and a bloated stomach that I can’t shake off!
Also this evening I am really starting to feel hungry. Not sure if it is this week getting to me or the fact that my last soup of the week was very low in calories? But either way I am dreaming about having some porridge in the morning and having a normal breakfast again. After all, who seriously goes into the kitchen in a morning on little sleep to make a batch of soup?
Dominic thinks I am mental with the experiments I do and he might be right – though wait to see what experiments I have planned over the coming weeks as there are some very weird ones that is for sure 🙂
I jump on the scales and feel like I have lost half a stone just from the temperature in the lounge. As you know (if you have read any of my other experiments) I get weighed on my Wii Fit and it always tells me my BMI first and I can often not remember what it said the week before. There I am staring at the BMI thinking I have gained which is not good.
Then the weight comes up:
And it actually turns out that I have lost 4.5 pounds, making it a weight loss of 9.5 pounds in 2 weeks. Now for a two week detox were apart from on the last night, I have never felt hungry is amazing!
This also means that I have lost 0.7 off my BMI in one week and that is amazing and means that I am just 1.9 now off a normal BMI. Or 12.5 pounds to be in the normal range. With many years being obese I never thought this was possible!
One thing I will take with me from this week is that I have discovered some fantastic soup recipes. I always thought of soup diets and thought of the cabbage soup recipe, but there is a lot more to life than this!
Many of these recipes I am going to turn to whenever I fancy a nice bowl and have them on my top recipes list. My favourite for the week has been my leek and butternut squash soup as this was first class. Before we started this week my son hated soup and now he absolutely loved it, though he wasn’t as keen on the celery soup as I was.
