I wanted to share with you the baby food recipes that we have been following for Sofia. They are simple and incredibly easy to do and make an excellent starting point for feeding your baby.
These are all based on what I have been making Sofia (better not take all the credit Dominic has been preparing them too!) and once made you can put them into the freezer in batches and then it saves you pureeing food everyday.
For example we bought a months supply of apple and pear and now she has several weeks supply to go at before we need to make some more.
Apple & Pear Puree
To make apple and pear puree for your baby it is rather simple. Peel an equal amount of apples and pears. Then chop them up into small chunks (will make it easier to blend later) and then steam them for 30 minutes in either a soup machine or you can do it in a large pan. Then blend together until they make a smooth puree. If you would like it to be more flavour some then add some baby milk to the mixture.
It’s very simple. Peel and chop up carrot, half a broccoli made into small broccoli florets and the inside of three avocados. Cook the carrot and the broccoli in a steamer for half an hour. Then add the avocado and blend until smooth. If it is too thick add a little baby milk, or if it’s too runny add a little baby cereal.
My favourite kitchen gadget is my soup machine. It is like a dream come true as it does a bit of everything for me. I bought it when my steamer and blender died on me and was looking for an alternative for it.
This is when my soup machine came into practice and we use it nearly everyday and it is perfect for making pureed food for Sofia.
All I have to do is:
- Steam the vegetables or fruit
- Then place it on blend mode and I have pureed food for her
Makes it much easier – though when you are doing apples or pears the worst thing is all the peeling that you have to do!
Either way I would much rather go fresh (and know exactly what she is eating) rather than buying foods from baby jars. Though the plastic baby jars make excellent storage containers so if you just buy a few and chuck out the contents it will give you something long term to use!
