Now this is an interesting theory, so let me explain what I mean. We often do things as part of our lifestyle out of routine. Out of programming our bodies to act in a certain way and being familiar with everything around us.
Take smoking for example – our bodies are so used to having the lethal cigarette at certain times of the day. When I smoked for example – I would have it after meals, before bed, when I woke up in the morning, or as a teenager whenever my parents went out!
Even now (9 years after quitting) there is still that urge to do something after I have eaten, because that’s when I did it when I smoked. This was soon replaced with a chocolate binge and its like a crazy ritual that I have.
It is simply a case that my body expects it at that time and it’s like some crazy addiction that has happened gradually over the years.
But in recent weeks I have been super busy moving house and a lot of this has been totally forgotten about. While moving house I have been lucky to get a small sandwich with a piece of fruit and chocolate has passed me by. I didn’t crave it at all, because I was so busy thinking about other things that I just wasn’t interested in it.
The same can be said about Easter, I was so busy. There was cleaning to be done, pictures to sort out, baby to take care of, new puppy to take care of, teenage boy to boss around, cooking to do and before I knew it, I had very little Easter chocolate compared to other years.
Plus I only really realised this when it came to Kyle going back to school and how much chocolate I had left!
It then got me thinking about when we are really busy, that it escapes our minds and we just don’t bother with it. Many nutritionists tell us to do something different when we have food cravings such as going for a walk, that way we can combat them and of course eat less chocolate and pig out less 🙂
It certainly gets you thinking about it doesn’t it? After all away from dieting the general reason for weight loss is because we have other things to think about other than fast food, chocolate and booze!
