As you all know it is Valentine’s Day – so first of all Happy Valentine’s Day to all of my weight loss blog readers and hopefully there is some love in the air.
Dominic and I will be celebrating it the same way that we celebrate it every year….a romantic movie (of my choosing) and a big box of Maltesers for us both to share. Nice and simple and the chocolate are always the treat of the day and nothing ever beats chocolate while watching a nice movie does it?
I don’t think we have ever been out for a meal or out to the pub on Valentine’s Day, this is probably due to the fact that our wedding anniversary is 20 days before and we have already done the celebrating!
However we don’t have a box of chocolates every night as otherwise we would be the size of a double decker bus, but we love to have our treat days.
For us treats come on special occasions when we feel the need for them. They may be a treat meal, a treat snack or even a treat day.
When I go out to the local buffet at my favourite Chinese restaurant I don’t want to eat the salad and fruit. I want to have the prawn toast, the chicken dipped in batter with sweet and sour sauce, the wok station, the sushi and everything else that is available!
Obviously, I don’t go to the Chinese Buffet all the time and its often a lunch treat once every couple of months, depending on what we have on and whether or not we are down at our local shopping centre.
Then there are birthdays, anniversaries and parties. But as long as we don’t have more than one treat a week we know it won’t affect our personal weight loss dreams.
I reckon that’s why we gain so much weight when we go on holiday. Just think about that all inclusive holiday in the sun. Those two weeks in Spain when you have massive buffets around the clock, unlimited booze, unlimited snacks and way too much ice cream. Then you finish this off by lying all day in the sun with no exercise.
All of a sudden you have had 63 treat meals and drinks in a two week period and have gained a stone in holiday excess.
This is what would be known as excessive treat days, but if you have a few now and again then its no problem and they can give you something to work towards as part of your weight loss dream.
If you don’t have treats days and days allocated to having your favourite chocolate the chances are that you’ll end up bingeing and the diet will actually be long forgotten by this time next week!
