There is often talk when you’re on a diet that certain diets are perfect for you. Just like some would be absolutely terrible for your individual needs and that we should not all do the same thing and I totally agree.
Take the story we published on the blog early this year about which diet is right for you, it pigeon holed us all for different things and I was shouting at the television about how right it was.
Take me for example:
I am a feaster which means that I binge when at special occasions so I am never going to be fat if I stay away from buffets!!!
Because of this it means that diets like the 5:2 diet are going to work terribly because I will just end up bingeing on the days outside of my fasting diet. I am much better on a more balanced diet where I have the naughty bits in moderation all week and then my body doesn’t feel like it is being deprived.
Have chocolate everyday!
If you are someone that eats vast amount of chocolate and wants to diet then don’t give it up. Just have it in moderation. When I was losing the most weight and documenting it on this blog was back in 2013 and my chocolate intake was not zero.
In fact it was about 5 squares of dark chocolate a day. This worked out at around 100 calories a day and I still love this chocolate now. I also found that with dark chocolate it tends to nip cravings in the bud and you’re less likely to eat more.
If you are a chocolate addict look for something that is lower in calories and then have some everyday if you wish. For example I am a Curly Wurly and Chomp addict and both of those are very low in calories.
It is often the case that if you take something away from yourself you will just want it more.
Or have wine everyday!
My mum & dad love their wine and they are among the growing crowd of wine drinking at social occasions, but wine is very high in calories and you will often find that some people hardly have any unhealthy meals but fail to lose weight because of the wine drinking.
So if you want your wine everyday, then have it as a small wine with some diet lemonade and then you will be drinking it in moderation, instead of having to forfeit it like many people do.
Find low calorie alternatives!
I absolutely love burgers and instead of constantly wasting calories on trips to McDoanlds (I try to limit my trips there) I will make my favourite low calorie ones at home instead. My recipe is very low calorie and it makes me feel like I am getting a fantastic treat without getting fat!
Another way to go about it is (whenever possible) to swap low calorie cooking spray for your usual butter or oils. This means that you can then have that extra portion of chips, those fried eggs or even a full English breakfast.
Find that one thing that you love!
When you go on a diet you are often thinking about all the things you have to go without. You think about stopping eating chocolate, no more booze, no more crisps and the list goes on and on and one.
But what if you thought about what your favourite naughty food was and never actually gave it up? But you just had it in moderation and then it never felt like you were losing anything at all.
Or each week you have one treat, that is bad for you but will be your reward for being good on your diet. For example it might be fish and chips this weekend and maybe a curry the week after?
Either way just because you are on a diet doesn’t mean you should miss out on everything! Just think about it for a moment and tailor your diet around your needs. After all, it is your diet not someone else’s!
