The majority of the time at My Weight Loss Dream I am the focus of this blog and Dominic is my lovely husband that does most of the behind the scene bits and pieces. He is the one that deletes all the spam, makes sure the site loads fast for you, that you find us via Google & social media and I just write and come up with ideas.
But as it was Dominic’s birthday last week and he was celebrating his last thirty-something birthday I wanted to use it as a time to reflect on his weight loss.
When we started My Weight Loss Dream Dominic was just a pound off hitting the scales at 21 stone. At the time you don’t really pay much attention to the way you look it is just normal everyday life. You have gradually let it increase over time and not really noticed that you have got that big.
When I first met Dominic he was about 16 stone (maybe a little lighter) so he was not skinny so a five stone increase over 13 years was not that bad and always felt like it was kind of gradual.
Before I knew it and 10 years of marriage later and we were both obese.
This is us on holiday at Disney World in June of 2012:
We are in front of what is meant to be Mount Everest and we are bigger than the mountain. It is rather scary looking at this picture and we all have that one “fat photo” well we have many but this is the one that we will always remember.
Then shortly after we returned My Weight Loss Dream was born.
But it has been hard work along the way and it can often be reflected when you look at pictures of weight that you have lost so far and how far you have come and how far you still have to go.
So here is a look back over some of his birthdays since the start of My Weight Loss Dream:
This picture was taken a year before we started My Weight Loss Dream. What I like about the sat down pictures is that they don’t always reflect your shape and you can look better in them than what you are.
Dominic was about 1 stone below his heaviest there and the lifestyle and what we were eating was disgusting. It wouldn’t be unusual for us to hit the local buffet and eat way too much and then go across to McDonalds for a big pudding. Greed is all it was and thankfully we don’t do that very often now.
This picture was taken around the same time as this one below:
And it was just after we had our first decent weight loss. At the time Dominic had lost just over three stone in nine months and we were feeling fantastic. Looking back we were still really big, but at the time it felt like such an amazing improvement.
We still ate out and pigged out every now and again but our lifestyle was a lot healthier than it once was.
Two years off turning 40 and Dominic and I love our healthy lifestyle. At the time of this picture I was in the last trimester with our daughter Sofia. So Dominic was fairly healthy where as I wanted to eat everything in sight!
At the time of this picture Dominic was exactly a stone heavier than he is right now and was proud of the fact that he had now lost over four stone.
We are now back to present date and from that first birthday picture in 2011 to now he has lost over five stone. And considering he has always been obese since he was 16 at least now he can see himself entering the overweight range. I doubt Dominic will ever have a normal BMI because with a man having muscle it is impossible. But he is healthy and after losing a couple more stone will be happy with his weight.
The nicest thing for Dominic is to no longer stand out for being really fat. Now he just has an average belly that he wants to get rid of, like most people do.
Dominic runs twice a week and is active and like me follows a healthy lifestyle and that is the best anyone can do. He also has dropped from a BMI of 40.9 to 30.7 and to say he has dropped more than 10 points on his BMI is truly amazing. His weight loss has also means that he has lost 25% of himself.
I am so proud of Dominic and it is so nice to be a healthy family together and to be fit and active like our children deserve.
