Before I dig in and tell you all about my takeaway favourites without the calories I think I should confess quite a bit. You see when we lived in England we were a takeaway owners dream. Unlike the obese people that feature on these diet shows when they admit to 1-2 takeaways a week, we were in a totally different league to them.
It was takeaway night on mondays, takeaway night on tuesdays, takeaway night on wednesdays and we would probably then squeeze in a fourth before the week had finished. No wonder then that when we moved to Portugal that we both had BMI’s in the obese range.
Even worse, Dominic was a trained chef and we should have known better, but with lack of interest in home cooking and not really caring what people think, it went on and on.
But arriving in Portugal in the summer of 2008 we suddenly realised that the Portuguese lifestyle was all about home cooking, lots of fresh produce and there wasn’t a takeaway in sight.
Even now, our nearest fast food joint is a 10 minute drive away and with it taking 20 minutes on a return trip (plus time to order etc) we have learnt that takeaways can be successfully made at home.
And this is why we have spent years getting our recipes right and then bringing together 20 delicious takeaway favourites without the calories to share with our readers.
