I started this last week because I wanted to look at how we react to high sugar natural foods. I am talking mainly fruit and how if you go to the fruit (before the chocolate) the chances are, is that you will consume a lot less sugar.
What if you got a craving for a bar of chocolate and instead ate an apple first, or had a melon with some prawns, or even some raisins. The opportunities are endless and here is a recap of foods that are high in sugar:
So after last week, of having hardly any cravings at all, I decided to run this experiment for another week, to see how my cravings got on and how soon before I had some chocolate.
It also makes a fantastic case study, if you feel like you’re eating too much chocolate and want to cut it down to “in moderation”.
So today is the day that we are buying a new house and also our first in Portugal. I am feeling really stressed over the whole thing and this is a good thing for my sugar cravings as when I am stressed I don’t want to eat. You could say that I am an emotional eater in that way.
We are on the go a lot today and end up having cheese and pickle sandwich for lunch (I am hooked on these at the moment!), tapas in the evening and snacking on an apple.
I am still super surprised that I have not had any chocolate cravings whatsoever. Sometimes I wonder if we eat what we eat because we are bored, not because we actually want it!
I have been so busy of late that I have not really thought about chocolate or other high sugar snacks and maybe that is the answer.
Fill your evenings with things other than just watching television, maybe read a book or even play a game and you’d be amazed on how much you cut back on chocolate!
Wow now I am starting to get boring. I seem to living right now on cheese sandwiches and snacking on apples.
At least I have mixed it up with a chip butty!
Today we were at our new house moving a LOT of furniture, the house we have bought was very cluttered so we were too tired to cook. Now this is something I don’t want to fall back into, were you end up living off takeaways because you’re too tired to make a meal.
Though, this week in an exception!
With moving and renovating we are on the go from 6am-10pm so a sandwich is about all I can manage!
Dominic does make a fabulous chip butty though!
So it is day 3 (or as we are continuing from next week day 10) and I am still really not that fussed for any chocolate. Dominic sat in front of me today with an enormous chocolate log thing (I had never seen one before so it was my best way to describe it) and I never even fancied it.
I think these apples are ruining my interest in chocolate!!!
I can’t believe the difference they make to my life. I have never really been much of a fruit snacker. Sure when strawberries are on offer I will grab a lot of them and binge on them, I will also get a fresh pineapple maybe once a fortnight but that is about it and I must confess I don’t always get in my five a day.
Okay so I am at home on my own today (while Dominic is at the new house) and just have Sofia for company. As a three month old baby she could easily keep my secret if I was to binge on chocolate, but the truth is I have no urges. I wonder what has happened to me.
I am also worried that I am falling into the “too busy to eat” or “forgotten to eat” regime. I am so busy running around, or thinking about other people that eating is the last thing on my mind at the moment.
I have looked over the last few days and with a few 800 calorie days, and with days when I am burning a lot of calories I am wondering if I am going to end up with a weight loss off the back of this!
We were too busy to go to the supermarket so with no bread left for sandwiches I end up having a couple of crackers and some strawberries and then not eating again until 7pm.
Friday already! And I am still not craving any chocolate. I wonder what has happened to me. My periods are not back yet after pregnancy because I am breastfeeding so I am wondering if I had have my monthly chocolate cravings how I would react.
For lunch I have some more cheese and pickle sandwiches along with an apple.
I just wonder why I have never really bothered with apples before. Its not that I have ever hated them, I just never bothered. Something else was always nicer and with how cheap they are I am tempted to get them more often!
It is Saturday and we are hosting a garage sale at our new place. I am also starting to get sugar cravings more and more. But I have surprised myself to have gone 13 days without any chocolate or sweets.
Like I have said previously this is very unlike me!
Anyway today the fruit just doesn’t cut it and I have my first bit of chocolate in nearly two weeks. I go for 8 squares of dark chocolate. It could easily have been more, but as that is all we have in (apart from Oreos that I don’t like) and I actually feel really good and don’t feel that bad.
Just imagine if I just have two lots of this a month – this will completely reduce my sugar intake and there is nothing more healthy than getting in your five a day!
Hello to the final day!
I am here – plus I am also full of cold. I haven’t had one for about 18 months and it’s probably because I am so run down. I just feel like rubbish and in between ironing I have a fair bit of chocolate and sweets. I really shouldn’t have bought those cookies from the supermarket this morning.
But hey – I haven’t comfort eaten for a while and it feels good to have those beautiful cookies melting in my mouth.
And the results are in and for the first time in a fortnight I have actually weighed myself. I am also not used to eating so little in chocolate. Kyle even had some sweets from his Grandma and I didn’t steal a single one!!!!
As I weigh myself I find out that I am 80.5 kilos otherwise known as 12st9 and I am pleased with that. Even though I have put on a little over the last few weeks my diet is a typical moving house diet, so I have not exactly being keeping off the fatty foods.
