Welcome to fat vs sugar part 3 and studying natural sugars.
I have always been interested in foods that are high in sugar. No, I am not talking about kids’ cereal bars or my favourite ice cream but healthy products that are good for you and that are naturally high in sugars.
If in doubt here is a large list of produce rich in natural sugars:
As you can see there are loads and loads of healthy foods to choose from. And the infographic above highlights my twenty favourite ones.
So my challenge this week is to look at them in more detail and to see how opting for these first before you go for the chocolate can decrease your chocolate needs and help combat your cravings at the same time.
What if instead of snacking on chocolate bars you opted for dry fruit or raisins instead?
Could I decrease from my usual 5-10 squares of dark chocolate a day?
Well let’s put it to the test:
I am starting a new week with my new case study and have tuna pasta bake for lunch (one of my favourites at the moment) and it has lots of carrots in it, onions and plenty of tomatoes. Tomatoes seem to be my addiction at the moment!
In the evening I come down with one of epileptic seizures so I consume very little and opt for just an egg mayonnaise sandwich and so far no chocolate or sugary style foods has passed my lips.
Hello day 2 and I am still recovering from yesterday so the sugary cravings and seriously not there. I have some toast late morning (with butter of course) and it tastes amazing, especially topped with some pate.
For lunch Dominic makes me some (feel better soon) chip buttys and that extra carb hit has to be the best ever “get well soon” food.
In the evening Dominic makes some lovely hotdogs in buns with lots of mustard and one calorie sprayed onions. They are absolutely lovely and its rather a surprise that they are below 400 calories.
I am still feeling under the weather and wondering around in sunglasses is certainly getting lots of looks.
Today we are out at baby massage class so we end up having some toast for breakfast (couldn’t resist the butter on top) and head to the Italian buffet for lunch. Really bad for me but I don’t eat there everyday so who cares?
They do pasta, salad, pizza and chips. Plus there is some nice fruit on offer too. The service is always great and the pizza is served at your table and you can have as much as you like. The chips were cold and had been around a while and that should have been note to self that I shouldn’t eat chips. But me being me, I ask for some fresh and they bring me a portion for myself.
I just can’t believe how much I ate and no wonder I didn’t need an evening meal!
Hello Day 4 and I am pleased that I made it through yesterday and so far not a single sugar craving in sight. I have a full pineapple to keep me off sugar for when the cravings do set in, but I am still not getting any, and it is rather interesting how long we all last without needing a sugar hit.
We have cheese toasties for lunch today and it’s the first day when I am really craving sugar so I opt for an apple and it gets rid of the craving.
Hello Friday and in my world today I have an incredible amount of stress right now. I am in the process of buying a house, looking for kitchens that fit into a silly space on a silly budget, then there is when we are going to complete, when we are going to move in, when we are going to get the keys and so many other things.
We are also on the go around the clock so food and diets are getting neglected. I read recently (can’t remember where) that one celebrity claims getting slim was down to not eating because she was too busy to eat. Well I can understand that because right now I am so busy I keep skipping meals without even realising it. I was going to baby group on Wednesday and jumped in the car to go (it’s a one hour round trip) and it was 11.00am and I realised I had forgotten to eat breakfast!
So today was the Chinese Buffet just because we couldn’t be bothered (as we were so tired) to wait for KFC to put some new chicken in the fryers. At least the wok station and the sushi are fewer calories than the chicken burgers.
Today it’s a case of “trying to work while wanting to go to sleep” and that’s one of the worst things when you’re trying to lose weight, when you’re tired you just want to eat everything and anything!
So today I have cheese sandwiches for lunch (I need to start eating breakfast) and in the evening we have
It is day 7 and Sunday is normally a day when I have more chocolate than usual, especially while I am watching movies.
But today I have no real interest in it and when Dominic sits there with some dark chocolate I have no interest in stealing any.
I wonder what has happened to me. I am the queen of chocolate addictions and I have gone a full week without any at all!
Well I had decided to stop it there after 7 days. But because of eating out and being on the go a lot, I found that I was eating a lot of bad foods (two buffets is never good) and felt that these meals had a sugar element in them, and as I never really craved sugar in the last seven days to see if this experiment properly worked I have decided to give it another week.
So you’ll have to wait until next week for the results 😉
