Sweetcorn surprisingly tastes really nice and at the same have plenty of health benefits as something cheap yet tasty to eat on a regular basis.
As parents we are so proud that our teenage son will happily tuck into vegetables and salad items whenever they are presented to him. It makes us feel that we have done a good job on educating him about food.
Sweetcorn is one of these items that we have no problem with getting him to eat it and he does it out of choice, rather than hearing from us why he should eat it.
If we have a half eaten can of sweetcorn in the fridge he will have eaten it, well before, we have the chance to make something nice with it!
Sweetcorn I have always found is a bit of an enigma to me. I do like it but I forget about it until I am eating something with it in. I like sweetcorn in a lot of things and with it coming out of a can most of the time it is just a pop and tip and in it goes!
We like to add it to things like:
- Tuna & sweetcorn wraps
- Vegetable casseroles
We also have it a lot mixed with garden peas when we are concentrating on getting in our five a day portions. Or if you are looking for something completely different it does add a lovely balance to a stir fry!
We find the texture of sweetcorn goes well with a lot of dishes because it is unusual.
Then there is the corn on the cob, something I am not personally bothered for but the wife and the son took into them whenever they can. Though, they are really good with how much butter they have on them and I doubt if I started eating it on the cob, if I would have the same level of self control!
At the end of the day sweetcorn is really good for you and a great source of protein so if you need a protein boost open a can and get eating with a bit of reduced fat salad cream. With it being a good source of protein it should fill you up a bit and give you some much needed energy.
