I remember the good old days when I could eat at the kebab shop and never put a pound on in weight. It was the summer of 2000 and it was the year that Dominic and I had moved in together.
I was 18 and he was 23 and we were having a fantastic time.
We would go out for a night of Vodka & Redbulls and do lots of dancing to the likes of Shania Twain and Robbie Williams and spend more time up dancing than sat down.
It then meant that we could go to the kebab shop on the way home and know fully well that we wouldn’t gain any weight and that our weight was nothing something of great concern. At the time I weighed just below 8 stone 7 and was considered in the BMI charts as being under weight with a BMI of around 18.
Then I remember the year of 2006 (six years later) and the year I had the biggest weight gain of my life. And no I wasn’t pregnant! And even though I had many reasons for weight gain too many takeaways from the pizza and kebab shop were among the big blamers.
And it made me now (a few years since I gave them up) question the amount of calories that are in them!
That huge Doner Kebab that was served with bland cold chips never seemed that bad when you had a few vodkas but now I find them disgusting. However if you gave me a drink or two I am sure I would relent and eat them just like I did as a teenager!
There are 15.5 Syns in a small Doner Kebab and this is based on the Doner meat served in a medium pitta bread and also served with the salad.
I am sure you’ll be pleased to know that at least the salad is Syn free!
Here is how some other takeaway favourites compare:
- Onion Rings = 2 Syns Each
- 100g Cheese & Tomato Pizza = 12 Syns
- Cheese Burger = 15 Syns
- Chicken Burger = 20.5 Syns
- Fries = 7.5 Syns (Green)
- 6 Chicken Nuggets = 7.5 Syns (Red)
I think with these Syn values it would be better use of your Syns to make your own at home or alternatively bump up whatever you have with a salad. Such as having a single burger with lots of salad.
I must admit though, I thought they would fair a lot worse than the Fish & Chip Shop and it is really not that bad!
