I just love Angel Delight and I may be 32 years old but I have never grown out of it. Dominic also loves it and I am always getting daily requests for it even though most of the time we probably have it once a month!
Though, like most things in Portugal it can be rather expensive and as a result we have it on a limited basis.
When do have our Angel Delight it will be served with some low calorie jelly and a Cadbury’s flake on top. It then makes an excellent low Syn pudding for when you want something sweet but don’t want to waste all your Syns on chocolate cake then this is a great alternative.
From a Syns point of view there is half a Syn per level tablespoon. Therefore if you have it with jelly as a topping you could easily have a huge portion and then not even be close to your 10 Syns a day.
This of course, is based on when you make it up with skimmed milk. But what if you used the milk from your healthy extras allowance?
Then you could recreate a trifle and have as much as you liked.
I would do it as follows to save as many Syns as possible:
- Pour your jelly into a bottom of a large trifle dish = ½ Syn
- Add fruit to the trifle (raspberries & strawberries work best) = Syn free
- After it has set mix a packet of Angel Delight with skimmed milk from your healthy extras = 14.75 Syns
- Once set grate a flake on top = 9 Syns
- Total Syns = 24.25 – Serving 6 = 4 Syns Each Portion
If you want to reduce these Syns further the no added sugar variety is only 6.25 Syns bringing your entire trifle down to a total of 15.75 Syns or 2.62 a portion. So if you were feeling really greedy and just shared this with one other person it would work out at 7.87 Syns each.
You could also make small portions of it and eat them over a few days to get your pudding fix.
