In a lot of diets honey is often a staple of the diet. It is incredibly healthy as a natural source of sugar and is much better for you than the artifical sugar that is a staple in many Slimming World dieters.
Those that follow Paleo will know that they can have honey whenever they please as it is a fantastic natural sugar.
But in Slimming World it is sadly a Syn!
It is 1 Syn for every teaspoon which in reality is not very much at all and that is probably the amount I use.
If I am making something such as honey roasted vegetables I will mix about a teaspoon with 2 teaspoons of mustard and then about a teaspoon of olive oil. Then I will add some cold water and mix well and then I have a lovely paste for making a tray bake with. I will then smoother my vegetables and meat in it and bake it in the oven for an hour. But with this meal often going around three people this is still very low Syn value.
It wasn’t until I started My Weight Loss Dream that I had tried honey. I thought it was delicious and couldn’t believe I had gone without it for all these years.
I have always found that if I have honey I have less cravings for chocolate and sweets so if do eat a lot of chocolate think about having some honey each day as a great alternative.
Here are a few more suggestions of how to enjoy your honey:
- Make your own homemade muesli and have a little honey on top
- Make pancakes with banana and honey for an easy breakfast
- Put a drizzle of honey in your salad dressing
- Use as a tray bake (like I have mentioned above)
- Use in a marinade for a shoulder of pork
Remember that a teaspoon of clear honey is just one Syn so go and enjoy it without feeling guilty!
