If you have not heard of Nando’s before then it is a chain of restaurants specialising in a South African/Portuguese Cuisine. As someone that lives in Portugal I love my local food. I just can’t get enough of it.
I could never eat an English dish again and as long as Portuguese food is available then I would be incredibly happy!
But what I like about local Portuguese food is that it is incredibly healthy. For example the last time I went out for lunch we were at our local café. We sat in the sunshine as we ate lemon chicken and salad cooked in a lovely olive oil marinade and it was absolutely delicious.
On the other hand Nando’s is probably very similar to an outside barbeque restaurant that we like to visit. There are no menus and the food is simple and amazing. We usually have piri piri (its called piri piri in Portugual) chicken with chips and salad and a glass of white wine.
But if I was in England and wanted a Portuguese hit then I would head to Nando’s. But because it’s not necessarily as healthy as we have it locally, then I would be wondering about Syn values.
Here is what I have come up with for a low Syn trip out to Nando’s:
- Corn On The Cob = 2 Syns
- Butterfly Chicken = 3.5 Syns
- Salad (without dressing) = Syn Free
- Plain Chicken Breast = Syn Free
- Spicy Rice = 2.5 Syns Per Serving
- Peri Peri Sauce is ½ a Syn per Tbsp
What NOT to have on Slimming World at Nando’s:
- 3 Chicken Wings = 7 Syns
- Regular Chips = 13 Syns
- Coleslaw = 12 Syns
- Garlic Bread = 7 Syns Per Slice
- Mash = 7 Syns A Spoonful
- ¼ Chicken Breast = 8.5 Syns
Based on this I would have the following if I wanted to keep my Syns relatively low and still enjoy a great meal without my family thinking I was just a fussy dieter:
Starter = Corn On The Cob = 2 Syns
Main = Salad, Spicy Rice, Chicken Breast & Peri Peri Sauce = 3 Syns
And there you have it, a meal out at Nando’s for just 5 Syns. You could of course make it a lot more naughty than this but this is a good way to do it especially if you want a good weight loss for the week.
Have a lovely evening and don’t forget to share in the comments below what your favourite meal is and how many Syns you used.
