Actors are often asked to change their weight for particular roles but Jeffrey Dean Morgan has taken his method acting to a whole new level for his part in a new series.
When he was asked to lose weight for his role in the upcoming Texas Rising miniseries to be shown on the history channel, Jeffrey Dean Morgan undertook a starvation diet to achieve the look he was going for – a method that is not advised for anyone to follow!
According to a report by the Examiner, the 6-foot-2 Morgan, whose starting weight was 175 pounds, starved down to 130 pounds by eating only one can of tuna fish a day.
The producers of the mini series had asked Jeffrey Dean Morgan to slim down and drop 10 pounds for his role as Deaf Smith, who has tuberculosis and obviously had to look ill for the part.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan explained: “He had a consumption of tuberculosis. I got there and I was probably about 175. I left and I was about 130. I ate a can of tuna fish a day.”
While this method of weight loss by Jeffrey Dean Morgan may have been very effective it is not one that is advised by anyone – not even Jeffrey Dean Morgan himself.
The actor, who has previously appeared in Grey’s Anatomy, said that his strange tuna fish diet was not only a drastic way to lose weight for a role but was also a very unhealthy method.
“I did it in the most unhealthy way possible,” said Jeffrey Dean. “I didn’t consult with a doctor or anything. We had said maybe I should lose 10 pounds, and I just kept going and going. By the end of the movie, I was just [moving] like a snail!”
Diets such as these are not recommended as a way to lose weight and actors usually have doctors monitoring their weight loss when they need to drop significant amounts of weight very quickly.
Anyone who is looking to lose weight should aim to follow a healthy diet and fitness plan with an aim of losing 1 to 2 pounds each week for sustained weight loss that you can keep off in the long term.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan has not only lost a lot of weight very quickly, he has also admitted that this method has completely put him off tuna fish for the rest of his life!
