Thankfully Sofia is finally gaining weight and now weighs just over 10 pounds. And I can’t believe how heavy she now feels. She was just over six pounds at birth and then dropped a bit when she didn’t take to breastfeeding straight away.
I remember going out for lunch with my parents when she was two weeks old and everyone in the café commenting on how tiny she was. I also took her to mother and baby group last week and a baby that was three weeks younger was so much heavier and bigger than her.
But now she has reached 10 pounds she seems so heavy for her 11 weeks of life. And it got me thinking…..
We are all so obsessive about extreme dieting and losing 10 pounds in a week, yet as I hold my beautiful baby I just can’t believe that someone actually thinks it is healthy to lose this amount in one week.
As I breastfeed her in the morning I go numb in my arm because the weight of her feels like an enormous amount, yet people lose this amount off their bodies in just 7 days.
Imagine if you followed The Cabbage Soup Diet for 7 days and lost this amount of weight, it is unnatural and as such there is no surprise that the following week that you put the majority of it back on.
I also consider that I want to lose 100 pounds to feel better about my body and to say that I need to lose Sofia ten times over is rather scary of how big I got and how far I have got to go.
Though on a plus side, when you are bigger each time you do exercise you are burning more compared to a slim person as you have a lot less fat that you’re carrying around with you. Probably the same reason, why slim people exercise with weights!
In the old days of weight loss it seemed to easy to shift a stone a month, but for me when I feel how heavy my baby feels I would be more than happy with five pounds a month because that is like losing half of her every month. This also works out at just over a pound a week and this still works out at more than 50 pounds over a year.
I have also lost 50 pounds to date and that means that at one point I was carrying an excess of five of her around with me on a daily basis. No wonder I feel so much fitter since losing a bit of my weight.
I am now thinking of helping my weight loss along my having her in a baby carrier while I do my exercise and this is going to be interesting!
