As many of you know I am a big fan of detoxing at the moment and have followed many detox programmes of late. The reason for this is that after my super unhealthy Christmas binge I want to bring lots of fresh food and drink into my diet and to get rid of all the rubbish that I had in December.
I am also super grateful that I am breast feeding as this means that I am at least keeping my liver in order and that it’s not getting damaged right now.
But out of everything that I love to eat the one thing that I can’t live without is my chocolate. I have the biggest addiction to chocolate and I really don’t know anyone (apart from Dominic) that loves it as much as I do!!!!
So when I came across Pamela Vinten and her new ebook collection where she does a mini detox I was desperate to give it a go and see what all the fuss was about. Especially considering it allowed you to eat chocolate.
Seriously a detox where you could eat chocolate?
Surely there must be some kind of mistake. But no, chocolate is included. There are of course many foods you can’t have – after all this is a detox so kiss goodbye to the likes of booze, dairy and grains.
Though, what stood out for me on the list was the margarine. To quote Pamela she states that “margarine is a man made chemical that should be avoided” well I totally agree and haven’t touched it for many, many years. When you look at margarine and leave it for a day or two, it just never changes unlike butter that naturally melts.
I would rather go back to lard then ever return to margarine. So as you can see with her confirming this I was already hooked by the ebook.
What separated this detox from others
Well I have done some tough detox plans and followed some tough diet plans over the years. Just think of all the times when you’re done the Cabbage Soup Diet and I promise you that I’ve done it more times than you
Then there are the juice diet plans. In principle they really work and it’s very easy to lose a pound a day when you follow them, but for me the hardest part of them is how many ingredients you end up buying to make it happen. In my mind that is harder than actually following the detox itself.
So I was rather surprised that when I got to page 18 in the Super Healthy Mini Detox that the recipe involved only had three ingredients and one of these was water. Well – I am truly amazed and can’t believe that there is such a thing as a smoothie come juice that has so few ingredients.
A friend of mine is currently following a different detox diet and she posted pictures on Facebook of the fruit and vegetables needed to do it and it looked like she needed more fruit and vegetables than what you have when you run a fruit and vegetable market stall.
This is probably the same reason why I didn’t follow my friend – just because I couldn’t face all the chopping and with a small kitchen it is not ideal for us.
A three day detox
Many detoxes are based around 5 days or 7. The two I have done this month have been seven day detox programmes so when I read the word “mini” I am hoping for a much shorter one. It turns out that its just three days out of your life.
Also, there is a big focus on helping the liver, so if like the majority of my family and friends that consider most evenings to be “wine o clock” then this could be the opportunity to clean out your system.
Imagine if you are a big drinker, you go out on weekends and have too much. Then you could tailor this towards you and follow this during the week. Or you could use detoxes like I do which is after an overeating time of your life.
My main detox calendars are:
- After Christmas
- After Holidays
- Before Christmas
I am sure I am stating the obvious after Christmas, but what about after holidays? After I have got back from the all inclusive hotels when I have eaten way too much fat and sugar and having a detox helps me from many angles. I can return my sugar and fat levels to normal, remind myself what fruit and vegetables are, not to mention feel healthy again!
Then before Christmas (usually the beginning of December) after I have eaten too much and want to get in shape for Christmas I will then have another detox.
The three day detox includes a nice breakfast, lunch and dinner each day. It also includes snacks and a nice chocolate based pudding in the evenings. I struggle when I have to detox when chocolate isn’t involved so to get chocolate has me sold on this one!
Lots of recipes
What I often had about a detox is that you have a limited amount of foods to consume over your detox days and then you discover that you can’t think of anything to make with them!
With this ebook package I actually found that there was a recipe provided for each of the meal plans and that they were very easy to make. I had to make a few adjustments for myself as I am allergic to nuts and there are nuts at a lot of the meals. But apart from that it is plain sailing.
I loved reading this ebook and it gave me some fantastic ideas for my next detox. There were a lot of foods featured that are on my list of the top fat burning foods and I imagine that anyone that follows it will lose a decent amount of weight at the same time.
For me, what I love about a detox is that it works on two levels:
- Helping you lose weight
- Cleaning your body out from all its rubbish
By following this detox you can easily achieve both and unlike other detox programmes that I have followed this is not very restrictive, plus it is only three days!
