Welcome to Slimming World Vs Paleo. Today I wanted to dig deep into how similar the Slimming World & Paleo diet really are and what this means for you if you follow either of the two diets.
I have noticed a recent trend at the moment where a lot of bloggers that follow the Slimming World diet have now switched their focus to the Paleo diet instead. Then you go on Instagram and those that use the Slimming World tag often tend to be using the Paleo diet tags too.
I will start by saying that I am a big fan of both, yet at the same time both diets have flaws that are not perfect for those of you that want to lose weight and get healthy.
But first let’s look at the similarities:
- Both have a major focus on fresh fruit and vegetables. With either diet you are allowed unlimited quantities.
- There is a big focus on home healthy cooking and getting away from eating a load of empty calories.
- Both suggest unlimited quantities of meat and fish in your diet.
- They both recommend that you have eggs in your diet.
- They both allow you to cheat or have treat days as long as they are in moderation.
How Slimming World Differs From Paleo
The key thing to note is that Slimming World members can enjoy carbs. This is something that is not available on Paleo. Also many of the processed foods and added sugars that we would stay away from on Paleo you are welcome to have on Slimming World.
For example a lot of Slimming World members enjoy regular cans of diet fizzy drinks, diet cordial and diet yoghurts.
But if you look at the carb relationship (if you are anything like me) you’ll lose more weight when you don’t have carbs. When I look at those with the best results on Slimming World they’ll have had a lot of red original days (where no carbs are allowed) and this is very similar to the everyday diet of a Paleo follower.
How Paleo Differs From Slimming World
If you are a follower of Paleo you’ll be amazed by how many foods are banned on Paleo that you can have on Slimming World.
For example processed foods, added sugar and carbs are all banned. On the other hand there are a lot of high calorie foods that would use up all your syns on Slimming World that you can have whenever you want on Paleo.
For example it’s rather a shock for Paleo followers to swap coconut milk for skimmed milk. And also to have the amount of olive oil that many Paleo followers have in their diet.
What I don’t like about both the diets:
With Slimming World a lot of the produce that people have everyday as part of their daily diet is not always available in Portugal. I don’t like processed foods and added sugar but its freely available on the diet.
With Paleo I feel like you lose too much – to give up dairy, added sugar, processed foods, most drinks and carbs is a real struggle. I also don’t like nuts or eggs so I am not the ideal candidate for following Paleo.
I am somewhere in the middle
I follow Slimming World but I also don’t overdo the carbs. I love my carbs, I love my dark chocolate and I worship my cheese. But apart from that I am Paleo. I don’t eat processed foods, I don’t drink much alcohol, I love my fruit and veg and I love meat.
Either way I am healthy and loving my healthy lifestyle and no matter what diet you are following as long as you are healthy who cares 🙂
