Last week I followed a fat burning experiment that I wrote about on the blog on Thursday (you can read about it here) and it was all about my meals being centred around fat burning produce.
However I am not one to cook one meal for me and one for everyone else. So the meals I made (they had their own breakfast) was all focused around fat burning elements and I was interested to see how it would impact Dominic & Kyle.
So I weighed Kyle at the end of the week and that’s were his involvement started and stopped. However with Dominic he recorded what he ate, what he thought about the food and his weight achievements this week just to see what kind of a difference it made.
And to ask the question can you enjoy your partners diet food without even realising that you are on a diet?
Now over to Dominic to fill you in:
I had bran flakes this morning with my coffee and then my wife explained to me what she wanted me to do this week, something which I was not very keen on to say the least. My issue being with so much going on why should we be doing these experiments at this exact time????? So with that in mind my food diary is going to be filled with pickings of chocolate and bread.
I had 5 squares of dark chocolate and I had to take our son to the cinema with his mates which meant I was let of the leash for a couple of hours and so with 2 hours to kill I went to KFC and had a tower bacon burger and large fries.
Oh and some Cadbury caramel bites whilst on a short walk to the local Iceland. I love spending time on my own and being able to feel young free and single it is sometimes just what you need to give you some energy back.
I swerved a possible eating hole today because Sam was ill so she could not take baby Sofia to her morning class which would have meant me trying to find someway of amusing myself namely finding an English café and having a English brekkie.
But she did not go so I stayed in and worked and blogged and ate some extra bread and chocolate all the while waiting for the bank and the estate agent to finalise a day to finally complete the house sale.
On these days Sam does cook some beautiful fat free meals. And I can’t believe these meals are low in fat.
Another day when I swerved another foodie black hole with Sam not going to baby yoga, yes it does exist, because the instructor had a cold, again I would have had to find something to amuse myself for 2 hours but like I said I swerved it.
So I worked and blogged and argued with everybody about the house. So with this tension my eating tends to go towards chocolate carbs, fat and other things I should not be eating because of my high blood pressure.
Ahhh…. shopping day today and with me being the only one that drives and having a new baby it was decided long ago I would be doing the weekly shop on my own.
Brilliant no baby or wife holding me back straight round no messing and some extra chocolate to be on the safe side.
Fair to say with Sam being on an overly strict diet most of the extra chocolate would be mine 😉 This was the only day she made me something I did not like and she does not do that too often, thank god.
Just too much rosemary in the dinner so when she said she had put some salmon into it I thought she was joking!
Final day to be writing down what I was eating and to be honest I knew what I was eating and how much I am not a secret eater I know I eat more when I am stressed and with the house dragging on like this my chocolate and carb consumption is through the roof.
So it will be interesting to find out my calories and if I am regularly going over the 2500 a day.
I hope I am not but I have a feeling I am and I need to sort it out or get the bloody bought and moved into a new house before I put all my previously lost weight back on!!!!!
First let’s start with Kyle:
The kid that eats everything and anything, he has been off school due to school holidays from Monday – Wednesday and managed to also consume a McDonalds during this time. He also eats a lot of snacks during the day. He previously followed me when I detoxed with soup (and lost weight) so I was interested to see what the results would be this week.
As it turns out he has gained 0.5 a pound and this is great because with fast food and lots of chocolate that he’s had this week, it shows that sticking to a diet partly along with a few days off school with treats doesn’t have a huge affect on him.
Secondly, over to Dominic;
Well what can I say about Dominic? Other than to say that he is a secret eater! Well a secret from a wife when she puts him on a diet. And a very moody husband at the moment too! I am sure you can gather from his insight that his has had a few sleepless nights lately due to Sofia teething.
Someone can not be put on a diet without realising and what this has proved is that if you limit fats and sugars in meals you will need to source them elsewhere.
The bread and butter along with excess chocolate add up and make his calories a lot higher than they would be if we just had three meals a day with a balance within the meals.
Dominic ends up gaining 1.5 pounds and this is one of his biggest weeks for weight gain in ages, compared to following a regular balanced diet.
This actually reminds me of my dad when I was growing up. My mum would put him on a diet telling him he was eating too much and that he was getting fat. She would then enforce the fad diets on him. His response would be to snack on chocolate when she wasn’t looking, not to mention trips to the chippy and then returning home for a healthy lunch.
This proves my point – you have to want to lose weight to do it – you can’t just do it because someone wants you to!
