Don’t you just hate when you’re on a diet and someone suggests McDonalds and you get stuck with either cheating or eating salad?
When there is the opportunity to eat a Big Mac, the thought of salad is really off putting when you know that there is much better available to you.
I have never eaten a McDonalds salad so you never know they may taste nice, but I am sure they don’t compare to what else is available.
There is also the fact that many people that are skinny also eat at McDonalds like the rest of us and if done correctly its amazing how you can get away with eating out whenever you like. Not that you should have a McDonalds everyday as I am sure that thought would freak out every nutritionist that you’ve ever met – my own included!!!!
But how about having the bad bits in moderation and looking at how the calories compare?
There are big differences between the calories from burger to burger and some things that you would think are super bad, don’t actually come out that bad.
So here is a run down of what I would suggest if you want to keep the calories relatively low WITHOUT having a salad:
- Single cheeseburger, small fries and a Diet Coke = 560 calories
- McChicken Sandwich, small fries and a Diet Coke = 620 calories
- 4 Chicken nuggets, small fries and a Diet Coke = 420 calories
There is also not much of a difference between a salad with sauce and a portion of french fries so think about that next time your at McDonalds.
And now that I have covered what to have when you’re on a diet. What about the things you shouldn’t have due to the very high calories?
Well there are a few that are very high offenders that will often consume a lot of your daily calories and wouldn’t be a good idea if you wanted a weight loss this week.
- Double quarter pounder with cheese, large fries & a Diet Coke = 1300
- Big Mac, large fries and a large strawberry milkshake = 2240
And because I like to be honest on this blog – this is what I would have in my old obese days without even questioning the high level of calories:
Big Mac = 560 calories
Large Fries = 570 calories
Diet Coke = 0 calories
McChicken Sandwich = 370 calories
Chicken Nuggets (2) = 85
Total = 1585 calories
It is amazing to think that I was eating all that and I am grateful that here in Portugal you can’t get milkshakes otherwise those calories would be a lot worse. In fact it was not that long ago that I had the above because when I was pregnant I craved all that and I believe once I even had three burgers.
I am not joking you can read about it here. Surprisingly while pregnant I only gained a stone and a half and delivered a six pound baby, so I have no idea where those calories went!!!!
If you are on a diet and want to eat at McDonlads then go for a McChicken or a single cheese burger and have small fries instead of big ones and then you’ll see that you can easily drop your calories by 50% and still enjoy a trip to McDonalds.
We go probably once a month and don’t see why being on a diet should mean that we don’t get our fast food fix!
