Have you ever done this before?
Where you are as good as gold on your diet all week and then you just binge at the weekend?
I am sure this applies to many people, booze and great food comes pouring in during a weekend and then the rest of the time we eat like absolute saints!!!!
I never really felt like I fell into this category though I know this applies to many of our readers at My Weight Loss Dream and I know this because…..on a Friday and Saturday my traffic dips, yet come Sunday evening when everyone is feeling guilty, all of a sudden all the diet searches re-appear into Google and then land on my blog!
So nothing ventured, nothing gained so I decided to see what all the fuss was and try it for myself. I am starting the naughty behaviour on the weekend (so I am less likely to binge) and then will continue it for five days with best behaviour. Then I will continue it into next weekend to see how much of an impact it has on how much I eat when I am officially allowed to eat what I like.
I promise that on my good days to go fizzy drink and chocolate free (among other things) and really stick to it, something I know is going to be super hard!
I will also ONLY eat foods (during the good days) that appear on my top 100 fat burning foods list.
So here goes!!!!
I am rather chilled today considering I am lacking in the sleep department at the moment. I have forgotten what it is like to get regular sleep, we are now in May and I have not enjoyed my sleep since June last year.
I don’t have a sleep deprived medical problem, I just have circumstances:
- July-September = too hot so always waking up due to the heat
- October-November = heavily pregnant and always wanting to pee
- December-February = sleepless nights with a baby
- March-Present = sleepless nights with a puppy
And as such following a diet and not bingeing is so hard when you are lacking in the sleep department. Though, I am trying to make an effort!
Today we have mixed meat for supper and it is delicious. We enjoy some Portuguese pork along with pork tenderloin with honey and lots of bread and some potatoes. Typical kind of food that we normally eat!
I also have my typical daily chocolate too!
Hello day 2 and this morning we are up super early to do a carboot. So before we leave we don’t have time for breakfast. So we end up munching on a cheese and ham sandwich each as a mid-morning snack.
Then for lunch we head out to our favourite café for some good Portuguese food. We have some mixed meat with rice, beans and chips. Well the Portuguese don’t have it with chips, but I can’t resist a side order of them!!!!
Then we share a slice of chocolate cake with some sorbet (yes shock horror we didn’t have a slice each) and then have a sundae in the park. Sofia is in the baby carrier and is really not impressed that the icecream is not for her!
Today is the third day and we are now starting on the super healthy week diet. I am getting hungry just thinking about it!
For lunch it is steamed salmon with a large portion of steamed carrots and broccoli, very yummy, but because I have forgotten to have breakfast it means that come 4pm I am starving again!
For dinner it is a can of tinned tomatoes. You may wonder why? Well they are full of nutrition and are even better for you than fresh tomatoes (read why here) and a can of the ones I have are just 108 calories, plus they are also a fat burning food!
In a future experiment I would love to do a week on tinned tomatoes where it replaces two meals a day, just to see what the results will be and I reckon it would be great fun!
Today is easier than I thought, especially with me taking Sofia to mother and baby group at a local bar. I am really not a fan of English food and would probably say I only eat English food about 10% of the time. So in the local bar to be serving up Fish & Chips I would normally pull faces at people eating fish cooked in batter, but today with my restricted diet I have this urge for some. And I swear it is the smell!
Anyway I bypass it and rush home to cook Dominic & I some chicken in a low calorie sauce (its amazing how good quark is for a base) and it is delicious.
Then in the evening I make myself some salad – a bit plain but I don’t care as I would gladly eat anything!
I can’t believe I have done three days now of my week by dieting like a supermodel. It has been harsh but not as bad as you would think.
Today Sofia has her swimming lesson at 5pm, so I decide to go early and spend the afternoon doing some extra lengths. Last week I managed 21 and this week 90. I still can’t believe I did 90!!!! I have hardly swum for two years yet I manage this – it’s amazing! And I love to be swimming again and the calories it burns is amazing and I am sure it will help me lose a lot of weight over the summer.
I also have salmon and vegetables for lunch and tinned tomatoes for dinner. Absolutely wonderful and I can’t wait to eat the same again tomorrow.
It is now day 6 and I am over half way there and can eat what I like again at the weekend. Though I don’t want to binge too much, but already I am having cravings for everything and anything. It is the way our bodies are made up, so that we have to claim back the sugars and fats that we lose.
But hey this is an experiment and I am willing to binge 🙂
Today it is a long work day for me so it’s easy to watch what you eat when you are in an outbuilding and away from the fridge!
Today I have tinned tomatoes for breakfast and for dinner and then in the middle have some salmon and vegetables for lunch. I still can’t believe that my super vegetable pile with a small piece of salmon comes in at less than 300 calories.
They just taste so good and it feels wrong that they are so healthy!
And there you have it – the final day of super healthy eating.
It is really bad timing that today, the first day where I can eat what I like, that I am at Iceland & Makro doing my monthly shopping. Iceland = the unhealthiest place on earth, and full to death of all my favourite sweets and chocolate.
So I thought I better line my stomach before I go, so for breakfast it is some branflakes with milk, then we have toasted teacakes for lunch and they are absolutely delicious. Then on the way home it is sweets in the car, sorry but I just can’t resist Waitrose Wine Gums and they are half price!
Then in the evening we have sausage sandwiches with chips and lots of sauce.
I can see that I am slipping back into my old ways already and I find it easy sticking to a diet because you know what you are allowed and what you aren’t. But having nice food in and knowing its there and that I am allowed it is absolutely lethal in my weight loss!
The last day and our first Sunday at home just the four of us. We moved house the end of March and yet here we are in May having our first one. Due to doing carboots to sell loads of surplus, lunch dates, DIY that’s needed doing and such like; we have never really had the chance to just laze around.
And today is the day 🙂
As we have taken delivery of our new dining table and chairs and the first ones we have had in more than three months we settle on a Sunday roast of duck.
In the old days we used to complain that the duck was too small, yet here we are with leftovers!!!!! I wonder what has happened to us!
In the past few weeks I have not really shared my weight too much; this is because it has been about how my body has changed through the experiments, rather then for weight loss.
But this one it was all about actually losing weight and getting back on track with My Weight Loss Dream, after all I want to be slim for Halloween and with just over three stone to go, its going to have to be a healthy and super active summer!
Anyway I jump on the Wii Fit and discover that I have more or less stayed the same. I have technically gained 0.1 of a kilo but when you transfer it to pounds and it becomes 20% of a pound it gets forgotten about.
As you can see here:
But what is interesting is that I weighed myself on Saturday morning before I binged over the weekend and I discovered that I had lost 2 kilos (4.5 pounds) over the week, yet gained 2.1 kilos (4.7 pounds) come the end of this experiment.
Therefore what this has taught me is simple:
If you are strict and then binge overall you are more likely to either maintain or have a weight gain that you are to lose weight. When you restrict your body you end up wanting things more and the end result is that you end up fatter.
I would much rather eat a little chocolate each day and still lose weight.
