When Jason-Dennis Stewart gave me the chance to review a copy of his new ebook “The Next Level Lean Formula” I jumped at the chance.
In a nutshell he talks about the benefits of getting fit and becoming lean, something that is at the back of my mind at the moment. When you have come from being obese with a BMI of 34.4 and you are suddenly at the point when you have lost loads of weight and you are now heading into the healthy BMI range.
At it stands at the moment I am just 5 pounds over weight and I am starting to get more and more active and getting that natural buzz that exercise gives you.
For example I recently got a cute little puppy. He is called Demon and is a Husky/Labrador cross and we called him Demon after the main husky in snow dogs. But as a husky he wants a lot of exercise and is far from a lazy dog like you would associate with other breeds.
I can take him for a walk (no problem for me) but what he really needs is a run and I am the most unfit person on the planet. I remember a few years back (at my fattest) we were visiting the local beach. It was a small beach with steps up each side to where the cars are parked. When I got to the top I looked like someone that was dying from an asthma attack – and I think it took me about half an hour to recover, much to the amusement of Dominic & our super fit son Kyle who was about 11 at the time!
I have no problems at all getting healthy, in fact nutrition is second nature to me, but getting fit and getting fitter than I am now is my problem area, that is why I loved reading The Next Level Lean Formula as it gave me something to work towards.
A plan of action and something that I could add into day to day life, even though I was not fit at all when I was obese, I am slowly increasing my fitness at the moment and one of the things that is so important to me is toning up for my new slimmer body. And this is what this ebook gives me plus much more…..
6 Reasons why you should buy The Next Level Lean Formula:
#1 – Jason reminds you of what is important
We often put way too much focus on fitness and then end up forgetting about our diet and that it’s an overall healthy lifestyle, not just a fitness plan.
For example years ago I was doing door to door catalogues and lost loads of weight really fast due to the mileage I was doing. I was easily walking about 50 miles a week and went from being about 12 stone down to being about 9 stone in the space of 2-3 months.
But at the same time I was eating a lot of things I shouldn’t. I was enjoying takeaways at least four times a week, a very big chocolate habit and even though I was slim I felt unhealthy and didn’t have that much energy.
But now I walk about 20% of this level but because I enjoy a healthy diet I know fitness is so much easier to achieve. Of course I am not perfect (I could never give up on chocolate) but at the same time I am looking after myself the majority of the time!
#2 – Why people don’t keep the weight off
There is often focus on getting people to lose weight, but what happens afterwards? I always notice that people that have lost weight never keep it off, especially those that are members of diet clubs like Weight Watchers & Slimming World.
Often the reason for this is that they stop trying once they are at target and then they fall back into their old habits and then they end up starting again over and over. And it becomes a horrible cycle of repeating what they have before.
With Jason he helps you to maintain your health and wellbeing after your weight loss, so that you have a long term healthy lifestyle rather than a pre and post diet.
#3 – The Fasting Approach
One of the things I love about Jason’s ebook is his opinion on fasting. I have followed the 5:2 fasting diet in the past, just because everyone else does, and this is the first time that I have truly looked into it and seen what it can do for you and your body.
Of course I was aware that you are going two days with hardly any calories so of course you are going to lose weight. But what gets me about it is the science behind it.
I love how science comes into weight loss and it’s a really interesting read to see how much weight you can lose and what positive effects it has on your body by fasting.
I often limit calories for certain meals each day, such as meal replacements with favourite foods and often find that by doing so I look forward to that remaining meal and make more of an effort with it.
This then stops me eating for the sake of it and makes me love my food even more.
#4 – The Opinion On Fat, Carbs & Sugar
Well this made me chuckle rather a lot. Just because it reminded me of the series I did on fat vs sugar and that the Americans have been obsessed with a low fat diet and as a non-American I have vague memories of this. While the UK is trying to get everyone off sugar and the Americans are getting everyone off fat, we are often confused over the best way to take it forward and it’s interesting to read from the point of view of someone experienced in the industry.
I am all for a balance of the two and often find that if you go “low fat” your body craves it more and more and in the end you end up with ten times as much.
With our daughter Sofia she is in the middle of her new life on solids at the moment (she is just over six months old) and because I feel she needs fat in her diet, one of the first solids that I introduced was avocados. They have natural fat in them and they are very good for her, plus there is no cooking involved so they are quick and easy to serve up for her.
I also loved his graphic where he looks at our relationship with carbs. And I had to ask myself if I was reliant on carbs and I had to answer……..
After answering all of his seven questions I can say that I am safe from this one, but it got me thinking that once upon a time this was me, until I changed my habits.
I also completed a carb free week last week and found that I didn’t have any withdrawals at all and have no issue with carbohydrates in moderation – but the big question is do you?
#5 – Foundation Foods
Now this is my world – I love that on page 54 of the ebook that Jason goes through all the foods that just be part of your foundation. And it reminds me of some of the foods that we eat in our house on a regular basis.
Some of our regular plate fillers include:
- Tuna & Broccoli
- Salmon & Broccoli
- Chicken & Vegetables
And I will have these meals about four times a week for lunch during the week. It makes fantastic fuel and I forget how healthy salmon and broccoli actually is and its only when people say “that’s really healthy” that I remind myself just out good it is for me.
But I am no saint, so I have a fair few that fall under “essential furnishings” and I couldn’t imagine living without the trusted potato and rice is amazing here in Portugal.
#6 – There Is No Magic Pill
I love the fitness end of his ebook and something that strikes a chord is the mention that if you want that lean body it will take hard work and a lot of dedication. I remember the year I did in the gym during 2013. I used to fit in as much as I could to a one hour workout and work as hard as I could. Of course, I was still obese then but I made the effort best I could.
I would love it (at home later) working out how many calories I had burned and it was often in the 600-700 calorie range. Even better was my weekly weigh in, especially when I discovered that on average I would lose 2-3 pounds in 7 days.
Now that is what you call results.
But living in Portugal and with it now getting warmer, I am using outside exercise as my thing and learning to run at the moment and we all know that running is one of the best sources of exercise.
I really enjoyed reading “The Next Level Lean Formula” and Jason does a fantastic non-hype job of showing us all how to get fit, stay fit and be healthy. I have a similar opinion to weight loss and exercise as what Jason does and it is a pleasure to read it and be given the chance to review such a fantastic ebook.
You can find out more about Jason on his website where he shares his knowledge in health and fitness and more about his goals to help us all with improved health and wellbeing.
Now is the time to take action and create your own healthy lifestyle and discover what you should be eating, what fitness you need and discovering how to look after your body once and for all.
