The weight loss and fitness industry makes billions and billions every year and its always associated with spending money. Buy this ebook and you’ll lose weight, grab this gadget and you can shed half a stone and it goes on and on.
But at the same time we all ask ourselves whether or not it can be done for free? By free I mean the only cost to you, is either your internet connection or your baggy clothes that you pull out of your wardrobe.
No gym membership, no expensive gadgets, just what is available to you for free.
I have covered this topic before, but because of popular demand I am going back with a second helping for all of you out there that want to lose weight, but am on a limited budget.
So here are ten places where I would start if I want free exercise that can help jump start a weight loss.
#1 – You Tube
I am an internet marketer before I am a blogger and for this reason I always think of You Tube as a place to market your business not as somewhere to use the site for actually watching and then enjoying videos.
There are thousands of You Tube exercise videos out there and some of them are really good. For example I have come across some excellent 30 minute step aerobic videos and they are great for doing via your television when you have a spare 30 minutes.
I also appreciate that the weather isn’t always nice outside and that its not always good for going for a walk in your local neighbourhood.
#2 – Take A Can Of Beans & Add Some Stairs
I love the idea of using what we have naturally at home and turning it into your own personal gym. Think You Tube – but with weights!
A can of beans is often quite heavy (depending on the can size) and can sometimes even weigh more than the medium weights at the gym.
Now factor in using your home stairs, then before you know it you have a stepper with weights!
There are of course, many other household items you can use but this is a brilliant starting point.
#3 – Sit ups
This is probably a cop-out as you are more than aware of this, but it works. When you get up in the morning and before you jump in the shower do some sit ups.
Start off with 10, and then build it up and up. It’s a great free way to tone yourself and to get your body motivated at the EXACT same time.
#4 – Jogging on the spot
The highest calorie burning exercise on my Wii Fit is the jogging. I love it and it is great fun. All you’re really doing is jogging on the spot and waving your arms around to help burn more calories.
The free jogging does so without the use of the Wii screen so that you can watch your favourite television show while jogging.
So if you created a free way (minus the Wii Fit Plus) you could simply stand in front of your Wii and jog on the spot for 30 minutes while watching your favourite soaps. Fantastic free exercise that anyone could do!
#5 – Fake Rowing
This is one of my personal favourites. Just think of the way your body goes down when you are on a rowing machine. It is like a fancy squat and I love doing them. You bend down (as if you’re doing a squat) and then pull your arms up and down. This is a fantastic way to burn calories and you can also do this while watching television.
#6 – Free Gym Classes & Memberships
Gyms are always offering free gym classes. This is because they want to entice people to sign up for their memberships and will let you in for a full day to use their equipment.
Well if I was in the area where this was on offer, I would treat it in a different way. What if it could be your own home boot camp? You use it to the maximum by going at the start of the day and staying until the end and then you can have yourself on one great day of free exercise.
Classes are normally included. Along with swimming and the gym. Start off with the gym, do some classes and then finish off with some swimming. Oh and it would be wrong if you didn’t reserve your last 30 minutes to the jacuzzi wouldn’t it?
#7 – The Park
Got to love the park. Well I am sure you would too if yours was like this:
Mine is one of many that have its own gym area. Nothing flash of course, but it does the trick. We can do a bit of stepping, general arm exercises and also sit on the exercise bike. All for free in exchange for paying our taxes!
Plus when its warm weather it is so much nicer than being stuck in the gym!
#8 – Doggy Walking
Nothing beats a bit of fresh air with your dog. Walking is the best form of exercise and when you’re walking a dog you forget that you are there for a form of exercise. It becomes a pleasure rather than a chore and you also get a fantastic opportunity to get lots of fresh air.
Just by taking a dog out for a walk twice a day, you can easily be burning 10,000 calories (if not more) per month.
That is the same amount of calories as 22 Big Macs!
And if you don’t have one, hire one. Animal charities are often in desperate need of dog walkers and would really appreciate the help!
#9 – Take your kids out
In the old days kids where never indoors. I would always get a lecture (with being an 80’s baby) if I spent more than five minutes on the sofa in summer. You would go to the park, be on the beach, on the bike in the street and generally having a great time.
So make a point to get outside and enjoy some free exercise at the same time as having fun. You could be having a walk around the park, on the beach, or even getting your rusty cycle out.
And it’s so much more fun embracing the family life than going to the gym 3 times a week.
#10 – Dance to your favourite songs
I love a dance, but dancing doesn’t love me. I have two left feet, have terrible co-ordination and should be kept well away from a dinner and dance.
However behind closed doors at home, who will know? And who will see me?
So I can just put the radio on (or in my case listen to some of my favourite CDs) and dance around and burn a lot of calories.
Imagine if you do it as fast as Zumba? Adapt your own style and throw yourself around the room to your own tunes and before you know if you’ve burned 600 calories an hour.
Great way to lose weight, tone up and have a lot of fun at the same time.
So there you have it, ten simple things to get you burn calories without spending any money. Some inside, some outside. And let me know which your favourite of these is!
