I saw an absolutely beautiful image on Pinterest the other day. It was aimed at bringing lots of traffic through to the website of the person that had pinned it. It was perfect size just like how you read to create images in all the latest Pinterest ebooks.
So I clicked through to find out more…….
And that was when my love for the image absolutely died and I just wanted to leave the site straight away.
I am sure you are wondering what was wrong with it.
Well it was about four words in big black angry writing on someone’s Facebook page and you had basically clicked through to a Facebook image. And that’s all it was and yet they had promised 25 healthy recipes and there was not a single recipe in sight and no idea of how you got what you were supposed to be getting.
Worse still, the pin on Pinterest had more than 1000 repins and based on how much traffic mine get that have had that many repins, I am sure she is getting about 1000 visitors a day.
And in my eyes it is such a waste to have all that traffic and no end result. Those could be buyers that are visiting that site and yet they have no place to be and nothing to buy or no mailing list to join.
But sadly I see many like this on Pinterest and the reasons I think it happens, is that they create a pin and then never actually expect it to be successful, then it is and they have never really thought out where it has come from.
But that’s why I wouldn’t have a post linking from Pinterest to Facebook – because you are talking about two sites that you have no control over. You want to bring people straight to your website and do something amazing with them, so that it will lead to them buying your products or joining your mailing list. Or alternatively they could just be there to spread the word.
Either way they need a purpose. I look at the majority of my Pinterest traffic and they have something to do when they leave Pinterest to come and check me out.
It might be to read a recipe and if they have come to do that the chances are there will be a call of action at the end to buy more recipes or to join my blog!
Go ahead and check your link for your top performers and see what you can do about them and make sure they are bringing you an excellent RPM.
