So you have decided to start a weight loss blog, this could be because you want to document your journey or you just have a keen interest in health and a healthy lifestyle. Either way you will want to start as soon possible.
After you have got your domain and decided to work with WordPress, this is the platform we use and recommend for the beginner weight loss blogger just because of the amount of support which is offered and how easy it is to use.
If you have not started your blog installation yet then have a read through our post showing you how to start a weight loss blog. I am sure it will be really useful for putting the first stages into practice.
As I am sure you probably think that setting up your own blog with all the technical elements is rather scary right now 🙂
Be aware though WordPress do like to update their product every month but you can now set this to automatic so you will just receive an email when it has being done, but do check your site to make sure the update has not un-balanced anything and that it is working correctly.
After WordPress is installed you will find that a couple of themes come with WordPress all ready installed for you but we do not like these and find them pretty limited for a weight loss blogger, so we have decided to give you a heads up and tell about what we think is the easiest theme for a new weight loss blogger to use.
The theme is called Socrates and you can find it here if you want to have a look at a demo version. We think this theme is great and is the first theme I worked on when entering into the online world. It was the best for ease of use and they have a great forum in case you run into any problems.
You will see a theme running through our blog posts about choosing products that have a great and vast forum community to help you on your way. We just feel this is the best way to get help and if it is an active community you will always get an answer.
This is not the case sometimes when you buy a product or service and you run into problems and do not get any kind of help this can be very frustrating, the amount of times we have changed things because of being let down by the lack of forums for help.
Anyway the theme Socrates is very easy to use and gives you a great introduction to code and what kind of codes make up a website. I am no expert but I can find my around some html and php now and it started whilst using this theme Socrates.
I am going to put a few screen shots here to show you a bit about how it works and how it looks just so you can make an informed decision about what is the best theme for you. Then after a few months of messing around you can always progress to Thesis 2 which is the theme we now use.
Here is your dashboard and on the left hand side after you have installed Socrates you will see the tab marked Socrates. Click that tab and a new area will open.
Here is your Socrates dashboard and the various options beside it.
Below you will see the list of settings which they do have a substantial amount for the beginner and again it is laid out so you can easily understand where a lot of things need to go.
This is the header tab and here you can upload a header image that you have had designed, choose one of the default ones you get with Socrates or you could just use a bit of text in this space at least you get to choose 🙂
Here is the background tab and you can choose a colour here, play around again and see which one takes your fancy or you could choose a background from their own options which you can see at the bottom or you could get one professionally done then it will look more personal to you.
Here are the options and various different design settings you get from this theme. I believe it is perfect for the beginner weight loss blogger and does everything you want it to do for the first few months of your blogging adventure.
