Welcome to the Weight Loss Bloggers Income Report for May 2015. We are back with yet another income report and are now getting excited as we are back on track with our weight loss, enjoying making some changes to My Weight Loss Dream and waiting for the lovely sunny weather to come to the Algarve.
We love summer because not only is it 32 degrees everyday (if not higher) but our son gets a long summer break that allows us to have lots of family time and not work as hard!
It will also be our daughters first summer here, so we are looking forward to lots of beach days, park days and not to mention waterpark trips.

More information on our revenue & profit during May 2015:
This month has been a very poor month as far as profit is concerned. It just happens to be one of those months when annual bills were due and when we were working on some new projects when we needed a big outsource team to be able to handle it.
I am just glad that these expenses don’t crop up every month!
Trying out new advertising networks
You will also notice that our Google Adsense has halved compared to the month before. This is because we tried out new advertising networks to see what else was out there and was rather disappointed by the choice on offer.
We tried Propeller first for 2-3 days and earned zero. Which is rather depressing isn’t it?
Then we ventured to infolinks and found that they took over our site and we still only earned $9.01. When you use Adsense even though its blended into the text a bit and we have a few banners, it is still not in peoples faces and they can still enjoy a good reader experience. But with infolinks we felt like it was ruined and it was only when the ads were really intrusive that we got any decent click money.
After this we tried revenue hits and these are going okay so far and use pop unders so its not like big fat pop ups are coming on the screen all the time. And I rather like them!
So it’s back to Adsense with some revenue hits at the same time and I am sure with us having a new design coming shortly, that we will soon be doing more and more places to increase our income streams.
Increasing our advertising revenue
We are also putting plans into action this month to increase our advertising revenue. There are three places that could do with some work:
Banner advert placements – These have not been top of our agenda recently, so we would like to work more on these. We would also like to explore more Adsense alternatives to fill these gaps when we don’t have banner clients.
Sponsored advertising – We are currently contacting brands with the plan to fill more of our sponsored advertising slots. From the social media ones to the traditional reviews. I love this kind of revenue as I love exploring new products and discovering what other people are up to and what they are doing. Plus it’s a high ticket revenue stream.
Kindle planned promotions
So I now have about 37 ebooks on the Kindle and the vast majority are repurposed blog content. I love the fact I can just use Kindle for selling on my behalf and doing the marketing too, but right now I am ready to mass promote myself too. I have a new design first (coming during June) and then when this is done I am going to put a specialist promotion package together for all my ebooks and then work on one at a time.
We are also expanding past the Kindle and this month will see us put our ebooks on:
And this will take our distribution to all the major sites instead of just the Kindle and Draft2Digital. It is exciting to see this all coming together and seeing what results we can achieve from them all.
We have also re-worded our ebooks to fit in with Kindle keywords to help give them a boost and it will be interesting to see how much more different it takes things.
More information on our traffic during May 2015:
The traffic has had another small drop this month and this has been a regular thing for 2015. We haven’t lost any SEO positions and we haven’t lost any social media links, I put this down to the fact that in the diet industry people make more of an effort in January compared to the rest of the year.
As you can see below:
Then if you compare it for the first five months of 2015:
My Weight Loss Dream has now hit over 1 million visitors since it started. Now that is amazing and it felt like such an achievement to reach that level. So THANK YOU for being one of those 1 million visitors – as we couldn’t do it without you!
Expanding on the traffic
Right now we have hit that point when we get lots of traffic from the regular social media, lots of search engine traffic and that’s about it. It feels like we have hit a cross roads and we want to take our traffic to the next level.
So we have been looking at new and interesting places to increase our traffic including:
- Gentlemint (male alternative to Pinterest)
- Iheartit (similar to Pinterest)
- Recipe sites (for submitting our healthy recipes to)
And lots of other places too. So we will let you know how we get on with that. So far we have tried out Gentlemint and apart from a few moody users we have found that we are getting quite a lot of traffic from there.
Our RPM for May worked out at $25.83 – not exactly the thirty something that we had last month but not bad either. It is our third highest for 2015 and is an average that I would like to keep to. Anything over $20 per 1000 impressions is fine with me!
We are busy, busy, busy!
We have podcasting to start, new blog design to put up, new sales pages to put onto WordPress (it’s the only part of our site that is not responsive and a huge job) new income streams to try out, new ebook promotions and looking at all that I wonder how I have time to sleep!
I am looking forward to it though and looking forward to sharing the results with you!
