There is a lot of debate over the Slimming World Speed Foods and whether or not you should have them as a big focus in your Slimming World diet.
For me if you take a closer look at these speed foods you’ll notice that a lot of the foods mentioned are things that nutritionists are always telling us to eat more of. You have the chicken and turkey which are very good sources of protein and the majority of the vegetables that we should be eating on a regular basis. You also have very nice fish on the list too.
But how much focus should be on the Slimming World Speed Foods?
In my opinion, they should appear on your plate everyday without fail. The majority of the food that you eat should be super healthy, not just for weight loss but for general improved health.
If you look at the older generations this is all that they eat, with a odd little other food thrown into their diet.
My next door neighbour (who I estimate to be in her early 80’s) eats a lot of fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and fish. She walks her dog everyday and has her own allotment so she is fairly self sufficient without ever really eating any processed foods.
Her vices are bread and plain digestive biscuits. But because the majority of her food falls under speed foods, it has no impact to her health and I am sure she will have many happy and healthy years ahead of her.
I love the idea that for every meal or snack you have, that 75% of it (or more) is the Slimming World Speed Foods that way you are constantly thinking about your health and your weight loss when you are eating.
What meals can you have that are speed food friendly?
Enjoy a whole range of meals and don’t feel like you’re missing out just because they are Slimming World Speed Foods. I love to have a range of meals and find that I end up satisfied for a lot longer when I stick to just speed foods with a little bit of extra thrown in.
Here are some of our favourite speed food meals:
Chicken fajitas – packed with lots of vegetables and chicken the only thing that is not a speed food is the wraps
Turkey casserole – I love a casserole and I throw in all the vegetables that are left over at the bottom of my fridge with some turkey. I then add some tinned tomatoes for my sauce and you are then all set on a speed food meal with nothing being a non-speed food!
Cauliflower Rice – oh yes please. I am so addicted to this. It has become the trendy thing for the last few years and it is where you blend a cauliflower and it then becomes rice. You would then make a stir fry as usual and then add the cauliflower at the last minute and cook for a further 2-3 minutes. When I make this I often add lots of fresh vegetables and some diced chicken.
Roasted meat and veg – I love my vegetables and I love my meat more. So I often add chicken and vegetables into a tray and bake it in the oven with some olive oil. It is absolutely delicious and something I just have to have.
The classic omelette – Every Monday for lunch (while I am working) Dominic will serve up a lovely vegetable omelette. It is amazing and full of flavour. It will consist of lots of vegetables and a few eggs and I will be left full for hours.
In answering my original question the reason they are so special is because how good they are for your health at the same time can really help with weight loss on Slimming World.
