Have you ever wondered why chicken is a speed food on Slimming World? I have especially after I put together my new chicken recipes a few months ago that were perfect for conquering the speed foods element.
But first let me take you back a bit to my knowledge of chicken and the Slimming World speed foods…….
I am a big fan of the speed foods on Slimming World. The way you have this fantastic selection of speed foods (and some super speed foods too) that are incredibly useful for speeding up your weight loss.
It was actually the first thing that got my attention back in 1995 when was on Slimming World for the first time. It was a simple calculation – eat more of these foods and the weight will speed off you much quicker.
Back then it meant that I could go strawberry picking every week and eat the whole lot and know that I was helping myself in the weight loss stakes. Though right now I don’t live right near some strawberry fields and have to often for other slimming world speed foods.
This then brings my attention to chicken. Unless you are a vegetarian (believe it or not I was once!) and how fantastic it is for eating at any point of the day.
It makes the perfect pasta dish, you can put it in a sandwich, you can make fajitas, it can go on the barbeque, it can go in the slow cooker and it is simply everywhere.
In fact, I can’t remember a time when I have gone into a restaurant and chicken hasn’t been on the menu. It’s so well known and everyone wants some.
But at the same time it’s also a Slimming World speed food, which for dieters is great news because you can always easily slip it into your diet.
But it’s a speed food because its one of the best foods you can eat in your diet. It’s a huge source of protein and cooked without loads of fat, it becomes very healthy. If you asked a load of nutritionists to name their best source of protein 80% of the time chicken would get a big mention.
If you are wondering what all the buzz is about with chicken and protein then think of it like this:
Protein fills you up at double the rate of anything else. This means that you are less likely to snack between meals and in the long run you will eat a lot less. Less calories = the more weight you will lose and get closer to your weight loss goals.
Have chicken as your main food source on your diet plate and then fill up on vegetables too and then you have your ideal weight loss plan in place.
What I like to do is keep a list close by of the Slimming World speed foods and then you can look at which speed foods you can have in everyday meals.
Many of us complain that with Slimming World it’s too easy, in which case we often don’t lose the weight fast enough. But what if we planned the majority of our meals around speed foods. Just think of how much quicker we would lose the weight.
Unfortunately Ben & Jerry’s is not a speed food on Slimming World – but I could wish couldn’t I?
