I have drunk cordial for as long as I can remember. Whether it was Robinsons or Juicee it was just always there.
I even remember a picture taken from the hospital when my mum was in having me, with a bottle of cordial next to her bed. So I am sure as soon as I was old enough I was having some!
The lovely taste in your mouth of Robinsons No Added Sugar Summer Fruits is amazing and we would have it no matter what time of year it was. Though, in summer it was even better with some ice cubes in and to give you that ultimate cold drink.
But in Portugal it is not the done thing and all the kids at Kyle’s school will happily drink water all the time. They have a few of their own varieties but they are so high in sugar it would be like giving a kid a Red Bull, seriously not a good idea and not one you should try!
So we continued to shop in our English Supermarket and buy it from there, it’s a Portuguese based Iceland and because items are being shipped from the UK they do carry a high premium.
But we also said they were worth it and in between bottles of cordial we would drink some water, but we have found that Kyle acts like we are torturing him whenever we suggest that he drinks water and that it is a punishment that he doesn’t like.
So last week we decided that because he would complain unless he got cordial, that the only way out of things was to quit the cordial and then with only water left, he would be forced to drink it!
We have a few bottles leftover but once they are gone, there will be no more! Portugal hits 40c in July and August and I am finding that if I don’t drink a lot of water during those summer months, then I will become very dehydrated and my body simply needs it.
But Kyle runs around a lot more than me, he is used to the summer heat but he is often complaining in summer of headaches and I am sure it’s because he is not drinking enough.
Dominic is not too pleased about giving up his favourite juice, but it’s a step we need to take in order to keep ourselves healthy.
Then when Sofia is old enough, all she’ll ever know drink wise is water and I am sure it will result in us feeling even healthier this summer.
Before you go, here is an article written by my nutritionist sharing why we should all be drinking water.
